Steven Lewis, Author of "The Ripple Effect," Highlighted in Author Solutions Real Authors, Real Impact Campaign

Lewis has survived pancreatic cancer twice and inspires others to stay positive when things get rough

BLOOMINGTON, IN / January 06, 2015 - Author Solutions, LLC, a Penguin Random House company and the world’s leading provider of supported self-publishing services, is featuring Steven Lewis, author of “The Ripple Effect: How a Positive Attitude and a Caring Community Saved My Life” through its ongoing Real Authors, Real Impact campaign.

Lewis, in superb lifelong health, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a disease with a survival rate of only 5%. In spite of his prognosis, Lewis and his wife struggled to achieve and deliberately maintain an extremely positive attitude.

This choice to maintain an optimistic outlook started a “ripple effect” that fostered the creation of an exceptionally caring and upbeat community of family and friends and enabled this community, which returned even more positive energy and support to Lewis. The story took another potentially negative turn when Lewis endured a second bout of pancreatic cancer that metastasized to his liver. Surviving a second bout of pancreatic cancer is so rare that no statistics are kept.

“My book tells the story of how my positive attitude during a typically lethal illness radiated out to my spouse, family and a wide circle of friends and acquaintances and, in turn, enabled me to stay in excellent spirit throughout extensive treatment for an exceptionally deadly form of cancer,” Lewis commented.

Lewis hopes his story of resilience and optimism in the face of dire and seemingly hopeless circumstances inspires others to stay positive and fight through the obstacles they encounter within their own lives.

“It is important to realize that nearly all of us at one time or another will experience harsh life circumstances that may be out of our control,” says Lewis. “What is, however, in our power, is the choice of how we react to the circumstances we experience. “A positive attitude can help us think clearly, be solution-oriented and ultimately prevail. As told in ‘The Ripple Effect,’ I was able to realize very early on in my illness that I had to stay upbeat to prevent emotional upheaval from devastating my family as we all struggled to deal with my life-threatening illness.”
